Ein toller Austausch mit Worcester

Freitag, 19.07.24

Day 1

Sunday morning, we met at the airport and were very excited. After we checked in our bags and went through security check, we still had a little time to buy some snacks or something to drink. The flight lasted an hour, which we spent talking, listening to music and watching something. When we arrived in London we waited for our suitcases. But after some suitcases had arrived, the assembly line stood still for a full hour and a half. We were told that 15 suitcases had not arrived and were still at Stuttgart Airport.

As there was nothing, we could do about it for the time being, we took the train to Worcester as planned. Those whose suitcases weren't there contacted their exchange families and asked if they had any clothes for them.
The journey took just under two hours, during which everyone was excitedly awaiting their first meeting with their exchange partners.

Our train stopped at Worcester Parkway Station at around 7pm. When we got off the train, we could already see the exchange families waving to us. Mrs. Parker assigned us to our exchange partners and after saying goodbye to our friends, we went home with our host families. We all spent our first evening with the families and it was very exciting to see how a lot of things were done differently.
We were really looking forward to the coming week.

Day 2

On our first day in England (Monday) we went with our exchange partners to the first lesson from 9:00 to 10:10 am in school. After that we left our exchange partners at school and went to the city of Worcester. As we got there, we visited the cathedral and went on a little tour through the beautiful city. We also walked along the river for a bit. After the tour we had some free time and walked through the city and found some really nice stores! At 2:00 pm we went back to school to be in the last lesson and some of us, whose suitcases were still missing, went shopping with the teachers. After the end of the school we went to our host families.

Day 3

On Tuesday, we took the train to Oxford. First, we were at the Christ Church, where the Harry Potter scene with the Quidditch-game was shot. After that we went to a museum where we were allowed to try on clothes, that were worn back in time. We also made a photo shooting with our teachers there. It was very funny! After that we were allowed to go shopping in the city from 11:50 to 12:40. There were some interesting shops and many food shops, in which we bought yummy food. Then we visited the Balliol College, which is part of the most famous Oxford university. The university was quite big and old. We looked at the chapel there. In front of the chapel were memorial plaques of former (in the 2nd world war) dead students and teachers. It was impressive! Then we looked at the campus and the "dining-hall”. The campus was huge, and the canteen like in Harry Potter: with many pictures and magnificently covered. It was a nice day and after we drove back, our host-families picked us up from school.

Day 4

Today, we all met at the school to go to Warwick castle. As we arrived at the castle you could see a beautiful garden with a big fountain in the middle. Surprisingly we saw 4 peacocks walking around the garden who were very extraordinary. Then we all walked to a lake and sat down on the grass and listened to the music and the show the people from there performed. It was a nice outdoor theatre about the history and the war of Warwick castle. After that we went on the different towers of the castle. We also looked at the underground of the castle where we could look at wax figures which showed us more about the history back then. Of course, we still had to go inside the castle itself, we were able to see every room and they were all very decorative, chic and very old. After we had a little break, we walked to the same lake to watch the Falconer’s Quest which was really interesting! Birds of prey were flying over our heads which was so exiting and scary! Everyone enjoyed it!
Then we drove to Stratford-upon-Avon where we went to Shakespeare’s birthplace. Right after we went shopping in all the sweet little shops. At last, we met up again and drove home. All in all, it was a really nice trip!

Day 5

On Thursday 20th June we were in school and took part in the first three lessons. Everyone went with their exchange partner to class, so we didn‘t always have the same subjects. After the third lesson we all went to the bus, which took us and our exchange partners to the bowling hall. When we arrived, we got together in groups of five/six. Each group could play one round. It was very nice, and we had lots of fun. After bowling we had some time left so we were able to play with the gaming machines and ate something as well. At the end of the day, we went back home.

Day 6

On Friday, we had to wake up earlier than usually because it was our last day in Worcester. Our exchange families dropped us around 7:45 am at the Worcester Parkway. The departure was at 8 am. So after saying our goodbyes to our exchange families, we headed to the train. After about 3hours of travelling, we finally arrived in London. There, we had to take the underground to get to the Russle Square where our hostel is located. We didn't stay long in the hostel. We only dropped our luggage and then headed to the Buckingham Palace, where we took great pictures.

We then walked through the St. James Park along the St. James's Park lake and it was beautiful. We arrived at the Horse Guards, where we met two soldiers on horse backs. After walking down the road, we saw the Elizabeth Tower and Westminster Abbey and the Palace of Westminster. On the Parliament Square Garden, we took a group photo of us all with the tower in the background. We then had about 30 minutes to cross the bridge to meet before the London Eye.

After that, our teachers took us to a really high building called Horizon 22 to go on the top floor and the view was amazing.
We then walked to the Tower of London to view it from the outside and we also got to see the Tower Bridge. From there, we went with the underground to the Piccadilly Circus.

Our teachers allowed us to go in groups of at least 3 people to have 2 hours of free time in that borough. We visited many shops and also Chinatown.

We then left together to get something to eat and at the end of the day, we returned to our hostel to get some rest.

Day 7

At 8.30 in the morning, we met in the community space of our hostel, that was located at Russel Square. We had breakfast and after that we went to our rooms to pack our suitcases. Afterwards we met in the hotel lobby to check out.

Thereafter we walked to the train station, which was located 20 minutes from the hostel. Then we had some time to buy something to eat or drink and afterwards we had to go through a security check. Following that we had to wait one hour for our train which arrived 1 hour later than we had eventually planned. Accordingly, we entered the train at 13.35 rather than 12.35 and we drove from London St. Pancreas to the train station Paris Gare du Nord within 3 and a half hours.

From there we walked to the train station Paris Est and here we had some time to buy something as well. At 17.50 we entered our train at gate 29 which drove us to Stuttgart main station within approximately 4 and a half hours. When we said goodbye to our friends, we drove home with our parents, while looking forward to a warm shower after such a long day.
